VOLUNTEER

Volunteers across St Kilda Gatehouse programs are highly valued for their time and skills. Without volunteers we would not be able to run our programs. Volunteering opportunities vary greatly from site to site, but always reflect our organisational values of building safe communities and providing safe spaces for those experiencing marginalisation.

Each volunteer is required to undergo:

  • a National Police Check
  • a Working With Children Check
  • attendance at a St Kilda Gatehouse information session
  • an interview with a team leader
  • and a trial period

Our Young Women’s Project also requires volunteers have a youth work qualification or experience working with at risk youth.

Drop-In

Each year the St Kilda drop in centre recruits a small number of volunteers to support staff. The role is primarily to help clean, sort and hang clothing, prepare food, and to help with celebrations and other activities as required. Volunteers work directly with those involved in street sex work.

These volunteering opportunities are very limited.

Young women's project

A youth work qualification or experience working with at risk young people is a pre-requisite to volunteering with the Group Work program at our Dandenong centre. The volunteer’s role is to foster community and model positive relationships throughout the 12-month program while also supporting Group Work facilitators. Volunteers work directly with young women and girls affected by sexual exploitation.

These volunteering opportunities are very limited.

A love and knowledge of fashion, the ability to work in a team, and to work within and learn about shop systems is required to volunteer at the Greeves St. Op Shop.
